The International Workshop on Language Production (IWoLP) is a biennial conference series and one of the most prestigious venues in cognitive science for research on how the brain produces language. Since its founding in Marseille in 2004, IWoLP has brought together leading scholars across linguistics, psychology, neuroscience, and computer science for keynote talks, poster sessions, and parallel sessions on topics from lexical selection and syntactic encoding to bilingual production, monitoring, and multimodal communication.

Hosting IWoLP 2027 in Hong Kong marks the first edition in the Asia-Pacific region. It opens new opportunities for regional collaboration, strengthens the global visibility of language production research in Asia, and provides an invaluable platform for early-career researchers to engage with the international community. The 2027 theme, “Language Production in Multilingual Minds”, highlights how multilingual speakers produce language and how cognitive, neural, and computational approaches illuminate production in multilingual settings.

In line with the conference objectives, the programme will provide an international platform for cutting-edge research. An online programme booklet and book of abstracts will be publicly available, and selected papers may be invited for publication in a special issue of a leading journal (i.e. Language, Cognition and Neuroscience).

Submission Guidelines

As in previous IWoLP editions, we invite abstract submissions for posters only. The abstract should be up to 300 words in length, submitted in an anonymised one-page PDF format.

The deadline for abstract submission is 30 Sep 2026. Notification of acceptance will be sent by late October 2026.
